COLUMBUS, Ohio (March 28, 2018) — Ohio’s efforts to make higher education more affordable for all students include strategies to reduce the cost of textbooks—and a new price agreement with four major textbook publishers has the potential to save students $39.7 million dollars each year. The agreement was announced by OhioLINK, a consortium of 120 academic libraries distributed among 91 Ohio colleges and universities, and part of the Ohio Department of Higher Education’s OH-TECH consortium.

Meghan Frazer, OhioLINK’s manager of technology integration, recently won the Academic Library Association of Ohio’s (ALAO) TEDSIG Teddy Award. This prestigious award was announced during the ALAO Conference in October.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Ohio Supercomputer Center played a critical role in helping researchers reach a milestone mapping the growth of the universe from its infancy to present day. The new results released Aug. 3 confirm the surprisingly simple but puzzling theory that the present universe is composed of only 4 percent ordinary matter, 26 percent mysterious dark matter, and the remaining 70 percent in the form of mysterious dark energy, which causes the accelerating expansion of the universe.

The Ohio Supercomputer Center recently displayed the power of its new Owens Cluster by running the single-largest scale calculation in the Center’s history.

Scientel IT Corp used 16,800 cores of the Owens Cluster on May 24 to test database software optimized to run on supercomputer systems. The seamless run created 1.25 Terabytes of synthetic data. For the full story, please see OSC's website.

J.C. “Jesse” Owens possessed both elite speed and raw power, which he honed and blended on his way to winning four Olympic gold medals in 1936.

Those impressive traits—elite speed and raw power—now are shared by the newest and most powerful supercomputer in the history of the Ohio Supercomputer Center, a system which, appropriately, is named for the late Ohio-raised sprinter.

The Ohio Supercomputer Center has been selected as an  Intel® Parallel Computing Center. As part of the the Intel® PCC program, the OSC research team will work toward modernizing a computer software package that leverages large-scale, 3-D modeling to research fatigue and fracture analyses, primarily in metals. 

COLUMBUS, OHIO, Feb. 17, 2015 – Jeff Smith has been appointed to lead the Shared Infrastructure division of the Ohio Technology Consortium, the technology and information arm of the Ohio Department of Higher Education (ODHE).

Last week, the city of Columbus, Ohio, took home the title of the 2015 Intelligent Community of the Year, besting international competition from cities in Australia, Taiwan, Brazil, and Canada, as well as stateside competition from communities in Virginia and South Dakota.
