Report Documents Success of Small Private Colleges in STEM(Inside Higher ED) – A recent study has found that on a per capita basis many smaller universities have more students go on to earn Ph.D.’s in STEM fields than much larger research universities.

 

The Revolution Is Not Being MOOC-ized (Slate) – In a large scale survey the University of Pennsylvania has found that the majority of MOOC users are coming from developed countries with many already having obtained higher education degrees.

 

Library consortium in central Ohio expands again (The Columbus Dispatch) – The Central Library Consortium has added the public libraries of Bexley, Upper Arlington, and London to its membership adding 680,000 new items to the system.

 

Colleges seeking autonomy from state system (The Tribune-Democrat) – Legislators in Pennsylvania have proposed a new bill that would allow some of its state run universities to purchase their autonomy from the state to help address the growing financial and enrollment issues being faced by the state higher education system.

 

Wal-Mart’s New Mantra: Made in the USA (Industry Week) – CEO Bill Simon of Wal-Mart has announced that Wal-Mart plans to purchase $250 billion worth of domestic products over the next 10 years. Estimates from the Boston Consulting Group show that this would add 1 million new jobs to the U.S. economy.
