Schools join forces on tech education (The Columbus Dispatch) – Across the state a number of districts have taken it upon themselves to expand their vocational and technical training offerings. Some districts are looking at providing vocational classes to middle school students while others are creating STEM specialized high schools.

 

School Districts Get Advice on 'Doing More With Less' (Education Week) – In an effort to help school districts use their funds more efficiently, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation has funded a study that will be released next week by the District Management Council.

 

Vermont program turns professionals into teachers (Education Week) – In order to help mid-career professionals transition into teaching careers Vermont’s Teacher Apprenticeship Program at Champlain College has cut the time needed to earn a teaching license down from 2 years to eight months by relying on intensive in class training with a mentor.  

 

Ohio voters approve 69% of school levies (The Columbus Dispatch) – During Tuesday’s primary voters approved 41% of new school levies and 90% of renewal levies, leading to a 69% overall approval rate, the second highest rate in the past decade. However, given the decreased state spending many districts that did not get their levies passed are facing a new round of spending cuts.

 

Regents Awards $3 Million For Workforce Programs (Gongwer Ohio) – Twelve higher education institutions will be receiving funding from the Ohio Board of Regents to help purchase equipment for new workforce development and training programs. The programs will provide hands on training in at least one of the industries identified by JobsOhio.
