U.S. Students Score above Average on First PISA Problem-Solving Exam (Education Week) – Results from the first ever problem solving portion of the PISA exam have been results, and U.S. students performed above average, especially in interactive problem solving. However, since this was the first time the test was given it is hard to say what these results really mean.

 

$2.4 billion capital budget set for Kasich’s signature (The Columbus Dispatch) – The state’s new capital budget is set for approval, and includes $455 million for higher education investments as well as $675 million to help build and renovate K-12 schools across the state.   

 

Most STEM Ph.D.s Ditch Academia (U.S. New and World Report) – A recent student found that the majority of people who earn an advanced degree in a STEM field (61%) exit academia to work in other sectors or even outside of the STEM workforce, despite the fact that most entered their degree with the intent of working in academia.
