Race to the Top extension sought (The Columbus Dispatch) – As the four year Race to the Top grant nears its end Ohio is seeking an extension to give it time to spend its remaining $121 million. Other states have already been granted extensions as new programs prove harder to implement than was anticipated.

Investment fund seeks to raise $3M to support Maryland ed-tech startups (Baltimore Business Journal) – A new Maryland based fund, EdTechMD, is looking to raise funds to help support ed-tech start-ups in and around Maryland. The goal is to boost Maryland’s ed-tech industry, which it hopes will help transform educational technology across the nation.

 

SanDisk To Award Up To $10,000 Per Student For STEM - Related Education (ULoop) – SanDisk Corp. has announced a new annual fund of $1.5 million to provide scholarships to undergrad and graduate students pursuing STEM degrees. SanDisk is also planning to offer similar scholarships in China and Japan.

 

Ruling good for Ohio manufacturers (Springfield News) – A WTO ruling has found China to be guilty of blocking the exportation of rare earth materials to other countries. This ruling will reduce the cost of these materials which will greatly benefit U.S. manufacturers as these materials are used in everything from TVs and cellphones to x-ray machines.
