Teenagers set up Stoodle to enable online peer tutoring & learning (The Economic Times) – A group of California high school students have set up an online tutoring site that allows students to create an individual classroom to collaborate on homework or projects.

 

Common Science Standards Slow to Catch On in States (Education Week) – A new set of science standards were developed last year by 26 states, but so far only 8 have approved the new standards. The adoption of the standards appears to be slowed by the implementation of the Common Core that is taking place.

 

State Department Bans Coursera From Educating Underprivileged Foreigners (Reason) – Due to current sanctions the State Department has ordered Coursera to not provide access to its courses to the restricted countries.

 

MIT Big Data Storage System Dramatically Speeds Information Access   (Scientific Computing) – MIT has developed a new storage system that will help alleviate some of the issues currently facing big data storage and sorting. The system is based on flash memory with individual control chips on each drive.

 

Lockheed Martin successfully tests self-driving military trucks (Tech Times) – Lockheed Martin’s autonomous driving system has proven successful in large scale testing in military vehicles. The modular system can be installed in nearly any vehicle and will help make transportation of equipment on the battlefield safer.
