Rep. Tim Ryan wants manufacturing highlighted in President Obama's 'State of the Union' speech (Cleveland.com) – At a recent press conference Rep. Tim Ryan spoke on the importance of encouraging manufacturing to a strengthen the U.S. economy.

 

A new university bets on a hybrid online-learning model (Chicago Tribune) – A new university in San Francisco is set to open that will have a fully online curriculum but will have students take the classes together on campus to help ensure attendance.

 

Utica Shale Academy charter school planned for eastern Ohio (Columbus Business First) – A new charter school is set to open that will have a curriculum focused on preparing students to enter the oil and gas industries. 

 

Online Computer Science Masters Pilot MOOC Opens (I-Programmer) – Georgia Tech is launching an online Master’s in Computer Science program to make the program more affordable and accessible to students who otherwise would not have the time or money to enroll on campus.

 

Thousands Drop Out of Ohio’s High Schools Every Year

(StateImpact) – Professor Joshua Hawley, in his role as director of the Ohio Education Research Center, was interviewed by StateImpact for their story “Who’s dropping out of Ohio’s high school.” StateImpact is a reporting project of National Public Radio member stations.
