CWRU researchers land $424,000 grant for nanoparticle work (Crain’s Cleveland Business) A biomedical engineer and a professor of macromolecular science and engineering will use the grant from the National Science Foundation to develop simpler ways to make complex, two-sided nanoparticles for high yield nanomanufacturing.

Schools seeking $867M in state grants (The Chillicothe Gazette) The Ohio Department of Education on Monday announced 420 entities made 570 applications for the state’s available $100 million in Straight A Fund grants designed to prompt collaboration and creativity. The applications covered a wide range of topics spanning from increased technology access and transportation solutions, to education for incarcerated youth.

Ohio’s approach to funding is applauded by many for its consideration of the varying populations served by different institutions.

Swagelok in Strongsville will offer high-school internships through Polaris in Middleburg Heights (Cleveland.com) To combat the increasing deficit of trained manufacturing workers, Swagelok will begin offering internships to high school students. The company hopes that giving teens inside access to manufacturing will debunk stereotypes of the profession and encourage them to pursue a career in the field.
