Cuyahoga Community College receives grant for job training: Higher Education Roundup (Cleveland.com) – Tri-C has been awarded a grant to help train low-income adults for middle-skill jobs. Participants will also be given job search training, resume help, and help with interviewing techniques. In other news Dayton and Cincinnati have been chosen to participate in a program to encourage post-secondary degrees among their local residents.

 

Firms invest $152M, create 700 jobs in Ohio (Herald Star) – The Ohio Tax Credit Authority recently approved 11 proposed economic development projects in the state that are projected to create nearly 750 new jobs statewide. These projects will bring $152 million in investments to the state.

 

Technology a Valuable Study Aid for Many Students (US News) – A recent study conducted by McGraw-Hill found that most college students find digital study aids to be beneficial, but admit that the access to technology can often be distracting. Interestingly the preferred platform for accessing these digital study tools was the smartphone at 36% compared to 22% of tablet and laptop users.

 

Six manufacturers to work with NASA Glenn to solve problems (Crain’s Cleveland) – As part of this year’s Adopt a City program six small to midsize manufactures have been chose to work with NASA Glenn’s research center to work towards product solutions. The firms will also have access to low-interest loans offered by the city and county.

 

Manufacturers Cite Health Care as Top Concern in NAM/IndustryWeek Survey (Industry Week) – In a recent survey Industry Week found that many manufacturers state that their top concerns are with rising health care and insurance costs. Many firms have had to reduce their economic outlook for 2014 in light changes brought on by the Affordable Care Act.
