Rocket Ventures splits from UT (The Blade) – Rocket Ventures, a capital venture firm in Toledo, has received $2 million in grants from Third Frontier with the stipulation that it expand beyond Toledo, which has led to the firm officially splitting off from UT.

 

Wind Turbines Begin Providing Renewable Energy at Honda Transmission Plant in Ohio (Honda Press Release) – Two wind turbines have gone on-line at Honda’s Russells Point manufacturing plant, making the plant the first major automotive facility to receive 10% of its power from wind turbines.

 

'Bob Evans Bolsters Manufacturing of Quick Meals (Industry Week) – Bob Evans has been expanding its ready to eat manufacturing plant in Lima, Ohio, adding 2 new production lines in under a year, and adding roughly 70 new jobs. 

 

IBM Watson Supercomputer Gets Its Own Business (Scientific Computing) – IBM will be investing over $1 billion to create a new business division centered around the Watson supercomputer. This will include $100 million of investments to be made in start-up companies that develop apps for Watson.

 

Million Women Mentors Launches National Movement to Mobilize One Million Mentors of Girls & Young Women in STEM Education and Careers (STEMblog) – A new initiative has been launched to provide mentorship for young women across the country to encourage them to pursue careers and education in STEM related fields.
