Microsoft to Cut Up To 18,000 Jobs This Year As It Focuses on Mobile and Cloud Computing (Deadline) – Microsoft shares opened +3.2% this morning after the company disclosed that it will cut its workforce by about 14%, which is far more than many analysts anticipated
                                                                                                                  
Now You Can Pick Up a 3D Printer at Home Depot (Slate) – In an attempt to cross over, or take a “step into the mainstream,” as Bre Pettis, CEO of MakerBot put it, MakerBot and the Home Depot announced a pilot program this week to bring MakerBot’s Replicator Desktop 3-D printers into a number of Home Depot stores, as well as online.
           
Ohio Unemployment Rate Unchanged at 5.5 Percent (Chron) – The unemployment rate in Ohio for June remained unchanged at 5.5 percent, staying at the lowest level since before the Great Recession.
 
Some Universities Crack Code in Drawing Women to Computer Science (The New York Times) – Only 18 percent of computer science graduates in the United States are women, down from 37 percent in 1985. At a few top college programs, though, that appears to be changing.
 
Study: Teacher Turnover is Higher Than Ever (Indiana Public Media) – A new report from the Alliance for Excellent Education shows that roughly half a million U.S. teachers move or leave the profession each year. That’s a turnover rate of about 20 percent compared to 9 percent in 2009.
