Charles Csuri

The Ohio Supercomputer Center (OSC) and the Ohio Technology Consortium (OH-TECH) are saddened to learn of the passing of Charles Csuri, the "father of computer art." Chuck, as he was known, was a true pioneer with a remarkable talent for interdisciplinary work and a significant contributor to the creation and success of OSC and all that followed.

OARnet and OhioLINK have been awarded $12.1 and $2.5 million, respectively, from the Ohio Governor’s Emergency Education Relief (GEER) Fund through the Ohio Department of Higher Education. The funding will be used to increase available content and broadband and internet speeds at colleges and universities throughout Ohio.

The Ohio Academic Resources Network (OARnet) announced today the promotion of Mark Fullmer to chief technology officer and the appointment of Aaron Wise as his replacement as director of networking, effective immediately.

Reflecting Fullmer and Wise’s expertise and leadership, these changes are key to ensuring OARnet’s long-term success as one of the most advanced statewide network infrastructures in the United States.

As the coronavirus pandemic began to impact the United States in March 2020, academic libraries faced the challenge of how to quickly and effectively support rapid transitions to solely online instruction. Many students and faculty worried about how (and whether) they would finish the semester. OhioLINK seamlessly moved to remote operations and focused on highlighting services that members found indispensable amid the new academic environment.

Amy Pawlowski

Ohio Department of Higher Education Chancellor Randy Gardner has named Amy Pawlowski executive director of OhioLINK, Ohio’s academic library consortium, effective immediately. Pawlowski joined OhioLINK in 2013 as deputy director for operations and e-licensing. She has served in an interim capacity since February.

The Ohio Supercomputer Center (OSC), through a partnership with IBM, has expanded their storage capacity by 8.6 petabytes. This addition almost tripled the Center’s high performance storage capacity, ensuring researchers across Ohio will have access to cutting-edge secure storage options.

Pankaj Shah, president and chief executive officer of the Lonestar Education and Research Network (LEARN) in Texas, has been named the seventh executive director of the Ohio Academic Resources Network (OARnet).

A broad array of researchers, developers, system administrators and students that share an interest in the MVAPICH open-source library for high performance computing will gather at the Ohio Supercomputer Center (OSC) Aug. 19–21 for the seventh meeting of the MVAPICH Users Group (MUG).

Longtime OARnet staff member Denis Walsh will serve as interim executive director of the statewide network organization beginning July 1, 2019, taking the reins after the June 30 retirement of current Executive Director Paul Schopis.
