If 'clean,' big data can improve U.S. health care (USA Today) – By combining health care data with social media data researchers have been able to improve their predictions according to recent studies. However, given the nature of the data it is important to keep in mind the risks of working with inaccurate of missing data.

 

Missouri lawmakers pass school standards measure (Education Week) – The state of Missouri is moving a step closer to removing the Common Core standards. A new law being passed will task a number of groups with developing a new state standard that might be used to replace the Common Core.

 

Ohio’s unemployment rate down to 5.7% because of job gains, but also shrinking labor force (Cleveland.com) – The jobs report for April is in, and Ohio’s unemployment rate has declined to 5.7%, a vast improvement over the 7.5% observed last year. However, not all of this improvement was due to job growth, as some people have begun opting out of the labor force altogether.

 

Program shows girls economic opportunity of STEM education

(CA Economic Summit) – Given that women make up only 10% of the engineering workforce in California, one of the state’s universities is using some hands on STEM programs to help get young women in grades K-12 interested in STEM fields.

The 20’s is becoming a new phase in life between adolescence and adulthood, and today’s college students are learning new skills that will help them handle this phase.
