Energy Boom Driving a Sustainable Manufacturing Renaissance  (Shop Floor) – Fueled in part by the oil and gas energy boom that the U.S. is experiencing, manufacturing has seen strong growth in the past year. This growth has led manufacturing firms to invest in more efficient and sustainable technologies to help them save money in the long run.

 

NASA moves earth science tools, platform to the cloud (GCN) – NASA has announced that it will be providing access to its climate and earth science data via Amazon Web Services cloud system. This data will be made public for use by researchers, app developers, and academia in a hope to encourage research and collaboration.

 

U.S. Companies Finding Success in China's Education Market (Education Week) – Many U.S. firms are looking to expand their operations in China. The Chinese education market is growing rapidly with a strong demand for western style educational technology products such as tablets, as well as English language and college preparation services.

 

Building a STEM Talent Pipeline: The High-Tech High School (Forbes) – SAP in conjunction with New York’s Department of Education is set to open a unique high school centered around a STEM curriculum. The six year high school will supply graduates with a high school diploma, associate’s degree, and SAP certification in an effort to better prepare the students for STEM related jobs and/or for further studies in STEM fields.

 

Third Frontier Commission:  (Gongwer) – Third Frontier has recently announced its approval of $12.8 million in funding for biomedical technology research. The loans were granted to both private firms such as Synapse Biomedical based in Oberlin as well as to colleges in the state including Ohio University and The University of Toledo.
