Columbus Schools on Door-to-Door Reading Blitz (The Columbus Dispatch) – In an attempt to help third grade students who did not pass the state’s reading test improve their chances of passing the retake tests this summer, the Columbus City School district is initiating a Third Grade Reading Blitz program that asks for volunteers to help enroll those students who did not pass into summer schools.

 

Google’s Tepid Plan to Boost Diversity at Tech Conferences (TechCrunch) – To address short and long-term diversity problems within Google’s programing department, Google promised $50 million to “Made With Code,” and initiative designed to get more women into coding.

 

Optomec Awarded $4M US Airforce Metal 3D Printing Project from America Makes (TCT Magazine) – Optomec was awarded a major 3D printing project from America Makes, the National Additive Manufacturing Innovation Institute, focusing on additive manufacturing technology for the US Air Force.

 

Shift in Law on Disability and Students Shows Lapses (The New York Times) – Under a change to the way the Department of Education evaluates how well public schools educate students with disabilities, less than a third of states, including Ohio, comply with the new law, while, under the old system, nearly three-quarters of states and territories met the standards.

 

State Aims at Dozens of Columbus Educators’ Licenses (The Columbus Dispatch) – Due to the investigation on the Columbus student data practices which involved omitting certain student’s scores and grades, the state office that investigates educator misconduct notified about 60 educators from Columbus City Schools, who are believed to be involved in the district’s data scandal, that they have the option of giving up their license to end the investigation on them.
