Tech issues may stall online standardized tests (The Columbus Dispatch) – A recent report has found that many schools lack the technology to implement the new Common Core online tests that are set to begin next school year. Lawmakers are considering pushing the implementation back a year to allow schools more time to prepare.

 

Oil and Natural Gas Infrastructure Investments Will Be Boon to US GDP, Jobs (Industry Week) – A recent report from HIS has estimated that investment in transportation and storage infrastructure for oil and gas production would have a dramatic positive impact on the U.S. economy and would lead to an energy trade balance within the decade.

 

STEM Entrepreneur: Government and Corporations Should Work Together to Help Schools (U.S. News) Dean Kamen, founder of FIRST, spoke before a House committee on the topic of STEM education. In his testimony he called on the government to help increase school funding for STEM education programs by using the fees collected from work visas.

 

New Approach to Transfer (Inside Higher Ed) – A group of 16 western colleges have teamed together to form a new credit transfer program for their students. The outcome based passport allows students to earn credit for their proficiency of a subject rather than relying on a direct match of courses, saving time and money from having to retake courses that did not overlap in their transfer.

 

Amazon to host cloud services in Beijing from next year

(IT World) – Amazon Web Services has announced plans to open a datacenter in Beijing to provide its cloud based services to Chinese and multinational companies in the region. Working with local telecom companies, Amazon will begin working with a limited number of firms and expanding its offerings over the next few years.
